The National Institutes of Health's 1999 Consensus Conference on the rehabilitation of persons with traumatic brain injury (TBI) concluded that psychotherapy is an important component of comprehensive rehabilitation. In their published consensus statement, the following observation was made: "although the use of psychotherapy has not been studied systematically in persons with TBI, support for its use comes from demonstrated efficacy for similar disorders in other populations" (National Institutes of Health 1999, p. 978).
